Apple issues first public beta of macOS 10.14.1 Mojave for testing

Apple has released its first public beta of macOS Mojave 10.14.1, arriving two days after the developer release, with the new trial continuing to appear as a small update for the operating system with minor changes, as opposed to more major feature alterations.

The new public beta release is available to download from the Apple Beta Software Program website, alongside other betas that have been released for testing by users. Public betas are usually functionally identical to the developer beta versions, with today’s build highly likely to be the same as Tuesday’s release.

Release notes for the macOS 10.14.1 Mojave beta offers little in the way of guidance as to what is in the current release, but it is probably going to contain performance improvements and bug fixes for issues discovered since the release of macOS 10.14.

One thing that is available in the beta yet again is Group FaceTime, which allows for up to 32 people to take part in a single video conference call on their iOS and macOS devices. Originally expected in the 10.14 release, the feature was pulled before returning in the iOS 12.1 beta track last week.

AppleInsider, and Apple itself, recommend against installing beta releases on mission-critical hardware, due to the potential for data loss. Those interested in testing the betas out should use secondary devices, and to keep backups of any important data before installing or performing updates.
